City of Tempe - Special Volunteer Project

The Faithful City will be taking part in a special volunteer project organized by the City of Tempe. You could be a part of Tempe’s exciting project at the Flour Mill. The Rio Salado Foundation has been working to make this historic landmark a pleasant place to visit and to see a significant icon in Tempe’s history up close! When finished, visitors will be able to look through windows into the mill. In addition, seating and landscaping are being added to give it a park-like feel.

Part of the improvements are “gabion baskets” –those walls and features built out of a rebar framework filled with river rock. Because the project budget has run tight, the Foundation is looking for help to fill the “baskets” with rock. Up to 30 volunteers are needed.

If you can help, please come out in jeans and closed shoes like tennis shoes for your protection. Please also bring work gloves, water, sunscreen, hat, sunglasses, and whatever else you might need to protect you from the sun and rock.

When: Saturday, June 30th, 6:00AM to 9:00AM

Where: Tempe Flour Mill, Mill Avenue and Rio Salado Pkwy
